Growing up sucks

  • Playing: The Sims 3
Well, for a month now I've been living in the apartment in Omaha, and during that time I've updated my LiveJournal periodically with complaints about how my life's been going. I'm going to try to not do that here, though, because even though there are two good reasons I have to complain--I don't have a job, and I don't have internet on my computer (more on that in a minute)--I know that I also have a lot to be thankful for. I have a nice apartment that I'm sharing with someone who I can actually live with and not want to strangle either myself or her, I have a car that's never given me any problems (knock on wood forever), I have amazing friends and family who support me, I'm fairly healthy especially considering I don't eat very well and I'm not really very active, I have my writing talent that really does make me happy and gives me something to do, yadda yadda yadda. I'm also enjoying living in a big city more than I expected I would. Life is good, and it's only going to get better once I get a job. :)

I moved in here a month ago, on July 1st. In my last entry I mentioned that my laptop was kind of dying, but that day it actually DID turn on. However, it constantly believed the battery was at 0%, even when I had it plugged in and it should have been charging. I was also getting the blue screen of death pretty often, so my dad offered to buy me a desktop. (Well, I paid him back for about a third of it.) I'm really liking it, especially since I bought the Sims 3 for it. :D But there is a problem--it doesn't want to connect to the internet. We have DSL here, and it seems to want a username and password, and Pam doesn't know what that could be. Besides, before Pam got here I had my laptop on her desk and was getting online on that just fine without any password. :roll: Anyway, we're probably going to stop being lazy and call the internet provider on Monday and see if they can't help me get online on my computer and I don't have to leach off Pam's laptop to go online anymore. ;)

My younger brother was at the apartment last week too. He got a job as the drumline coach at Benson High School (our old band director works there now, which is how he got the job), but since he lives in Lincoln and he didn't want to make the hour drive every day during the drumline band camp, I let him stay at the apartment here. He might be here again this coming week, too, for the actual band camp... I need to get in touch with him and find out for sure.

In addition to fruitlessly looking for jobs (although I did apply for one at Dana College--I'll laugh my butt off if I get it, but it's about the only job that I'm halfway experienced in), I've been writing. Without internet on my computer, I have nothing to distract me while doing so, which means... in the time span of about two weeks I've written close to 30,000 words in three different stories. :O_o: The majority of that being in a new Hey Arnold story with no current plot. Blah, I suck. ;p But I'm still chugging away on that one, and at the rate I'm going I'll probably be finished with it in another two weeks or so. I've also been working on the Licky/Gos that'll never get finished I'm sure, and I also started the sequel to Refugee. Yeah, you read that right. The sequel to Refugee. :)

Hopefully I'll get more frequent internet soon, but in the even I don't... and even if I do, since I'm not on DA much anymore... if you want to contact me and have Facebook, that's the way to do it. [link] I get Facebook on my phone--actually, I get the internet in general on my phone, but the screen's small and it takes ages to load and usually it's just not worth it, especially with DA and LJ. But the Facebook application is easy to use and alerts me of updates. :) If you do add me, make sure you add a note telling me your DA name so I know that I actually (kind of) know who you are. :)

I'll update again next month, hopefully from my own computer and with the news that I've got a job! But even if I don't have one by then, my classes start at the end of August and I'll have a family reunion I'm going to next week (I let my mom talk me into it) to talk about. :)

I feel your pain. My laptop died last week (black screen of death a nd only 2 GB of memory left) and I lost a couple of pieces, including a fanfic that was 35 pages long and just about ready to publish. No biggie, but I was extremely frustrated.
Then I started looking ahead to the jb search next year, and was quite depressed when the search engine turned up "no jobs listed in selected field." Truth be told, this is a really crappy time to be looking for a job, and in CA especially, with all the budget cuts.

Oh man, I'd be frustrated too! Luckily I managed to get all my fanfics on a flash drive before switching computers. My laptop still isn't dead yet, it's just a piece of crap. ^^;

At least you HAVE a selected field. ^^; I honestly have no clue what I qualify for, so I'm just applying for anything that I think I have somewhat of a chance at.

And what's even more depressing, last night on the news, they profiled a guy who has a Ph.D. in French Carribbean literature, who is working as a clerk at whole Foods Grocery. Oh well, if the teaching stuff doesn't work out, I guess I have a promising career as a grocery clerk...
