Graduation

Sun May 24, 2009, 6:13 AM
  • Mood: Triumph
I graduated from college yesterday. I now officially have a bachelor's degree--two, actually, in both English and Spanish.

:iconkermityayplz:

These past few weeks, as you can tell by reading my past journal entries, have been chaos, and only last night was I able to finally relax a little bit. This week was finals, which compared to all my essays and presentations really weren't that bad, but they were still something I had to prepare for. Also, I was still putting the finishing touches on my criticism paper. All twelve of us in that class finished that paper no more than twenty-four hours before it was due. Most of us didn't get it done until the very day, actually. :XD:

In addition to that, my parents came both Thursday and Friday to take my stuff out of my dorm for the last time. I still had check-outs to take care of, getting everyone's key and such, and I also had to get ready for graduation, obviously. On Friday there was a senior recognition dinner and ceremony that my parents wanted to go to, so I went--but I had no clue I was going to get recognized for something there, too. But the residence life people gave me flowers for being the longest serving RA (three years). Needless to say, I was completely embarrassed and not expecting that at all. But very grateful too, of course. ^^;

Yesterday was the ceremony. I had lots of "bling bling", as my brother Davy referred to it--three different cords and my Morton scholar's medallion. I graduated summa cum laude, which is the highest (GPA of 3.9 and above), so that was awesomesauce. :D I wasn't a valedictorian (sorry if I spelled that wrong, Mom and Dad's internet doesn't have a spell check) thanks to a few classes with Doc in which I was lucky enough to pull a B, but that was fine with me, I didn't have to get up on stage and be recognized individually.

I don't have my diploma yet... you know how graduation ceremonies are. :roll: I'll be getting it mailed to me. That is, unless I somehow failed all my finals and I didn't actually graduate, but that seems rather unlikely.

I have to admit, it still hasn't quite sunk in yet that I'm done with college. I mean, I'm not really done quite yet--graduate school and all. But I'm done at Dana, and I'm done with the "traditional" college student life--for grad school I'll have class just once a month, in between (hopefully) a full-time job (that I really need to get cracking on and look for). But right now, all I can do is relax and finally breathe again. ^^; My goals right now, along with finding a job, are smaller--practice flute music for a few weddings I'm playing for this summer, get a haircut, that kind of stuff. :)

In fandom related news, in between all the craziness of this week I actually managed to get a new fanfic written: [link] Hey Arnold fanfic! That's the nineteenth fandom I've written for, or at least posted to FF.net. :iconlolwutplz: Too many fandoms and too little time, I tell you.

I shall see you all next week! Maybe during this week I'll find some time to draw my long-overdue prizes and requests. :)

Yayy!! :w00t: Congrats! That's so awesome. I still have 4-5 years to go since that's how long the teaching program takes. I have the same majors you did, but my degree is going to be in secondary ed. It's kind of weird how they do it. :shrug: But that's so awesome that you're graduated! I can bet it feels different. Bet a huge burden is released off your shoulders. And wow that's a high GPA. Awesome :D So what kind of job are you looking for?

If it weren't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable.

When you're close, I can't breathe, I feel sparks :heart: Say that it's gonna be okay...

Thank you! Yeah, ed majors have all the education classes to take, too, so I can see why that would last longer.

Right now I'm not really looking for any job in particular, I just want one that pays well (and I'd like to avoid food service if at all possible). I'm going to get my master's in library science, though, so hopefully in a couple of years I'll find a librarian job somewhere. :)
